What you should know about bitumen membranes
SBS-modified bitumen membranes are factory-made sheets of uniform thickness, torch-applied to concrete over a bituminous primer. Their constant thickness is a major advantage: layer quality does not depend on the applicator's spreading skill as with liquids.
Their only weak points are the laps and corners. We keep 10–15 cm overlaps, reinforce corners and drains with extra strips before the full layer, and flood-test the roof before finishing.

Do membranes need a protection layer?
Yes. Membranes under tiles need a protective screed; exposed membranes need a mineral-surfaced type or reflective coating.
How long do bitumen membranes last?
Typically 10–20 years, depending on bonding, overlap treatment and protection.
Membranes or liquid waterproofing?
Membranes are best for large flat areas with constant thickness; liquids are best for complex details.
