Your tank holds your family's drinking water. Its lining must stop both leaks and contamination, with a potable-safe material and work that starts with a full clean, not paint over sediment.

Overview

What you should know about water tank waterproofing

A leaking underground tank wastes water and weakens the soil around foundations, while cracks let contaminants in. Typical signs: higher water bills, recurring algae, a smell or colour in the water, or damp around the tank.

We empty and clean the tank, inspect walls and floor, repair cracks and corners, then apply a system approved for drinking water: cementitious lining for conventional concrete tanks, or potable-grade polyurea where flexibility and speed are needed.

Where it fits

Underground concrete tanks

Internal lining against leaks and contamination.

Roof tanks

Protection against cracks from thermal movement.

Project and compound tanks

Large capacities scheduled to minimise water outage.

Old tank rehabilitation

Remove failed lining, repair concrete, then reline.

Method

How we install it, step by step

  1. 1

    Empty & clean

Remove sediment, algae and rust, then rinse thoroughly.

  2. 2

    Inspect & repair cracks

Walls, floor and roof repaired with concrete repair materials.

  3. 3

    Corner fillets

Cementitious fillets at corners, the most leak-prone points.

  4. 4

    Pre-wet the surface

For cementitious systems, so the concrete does not draw water from the coating.

  5. 5

    Two coats

The second in the opposite direction after 4–6 hours.

  6. 6

    Cure & test

After full cure (48–72 h) the tank is filled for testing, then washed before use.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does the lining affect water taste?

No, when potable-approved materials are used and the tank is washed before use.

How long is the tank out of service?

Usually 3–5 days: two days for preparation and application and two to three for curing and testing.

Cementitious or polyurea for a tank?

Cementitious is economical and fully compatible with concrete; polyurea is more flexible, bridges cracks and lasts longer at a higher cost.
